So, the recent war of words involving the USA, UK, Ukraine and Russia is quite amusing to say the least, despite the troop mobilizations from the different parties involved. Each ‘actor’ (head of state) delivering macho & alarmist sound-bytes to a delirious, tail wagging media(Duh!). Such is the amplification via the media and the social media that I am thinking to myself, why has the bloodletting not started yet? A tad bit disappointed too, somewhere in my mind. Just kidding!

Add to this heady mix, a million ‘professionals’ (serious pun involved) working in the Global financial markets, who can no longer take long bathroom breaks anymore! Why, you say? Well, how would it look if your client’s folio took a major dive if you were in the loo instead of being vigilant in front of your trading terminal? Lol. So, it appears that the start of a glorious spring-summer season and long martini/champagne lunches in fancy restaurants(conveniently billed to the client) are out of the picture for the investment banking chaps.

Where does that leave us then? Well same as all, really, the citizen class has always been the one to do the work and pay the taxes while the ruling elite supposedly has got the reigns and all is well on the western front! Nah seriously! It makes me wanna throw up. The ‘I know it all and thus I shall rule your lives as I see fit’ mode, that most heads of state tend to slip into after being voted into the office is just sickening. Everywhere I look, the greed of a few has and is further likely to cause all kinds of grief to the innocent citizens around the world.

Folks laud the arrival of the social media age and the ‘civilian reporting’ of events and point to it as being an effective deterrent to the evil designs of those in power. I sincerely hope that the public opinion and the ‘civilian reporters’ with their Instagram reels, twitter timelines and whatsapp videos can and will continue to put pressure on those in power and help keep alive democratic values and civic liberties for the global citizen.
