Ah, Punjab! The state which gave India its ‘Green Revolution’. The iconic sunflower fields pictured in blockbuster movies. The land of makke di roti, sarson da saag, and enough desi makhan to make your heart jump out.
Punjab is not just about food and festivities – it is about the people who have hearts bigger than the butter-laden parathas. Punjabis are known for their welcoming smiles and infectious laughter that can turn any dull moment into a celebration. If you've ever been to a Punjabi wedding, you would know that you're not just a guest – you're family. Their warmth and camaraderie make you feel like you've known them forever. Heck, even their cuss words sound sweet! Oye Kake!
So, it is odd to see that Punjabi TV series or movies have been a little disappointing up until now. Hey, you cannot blame me for almost writing off “Pollywood”! Yes almost. Because out of nowhere come not one but three powerful TV /web series set in Punjab. And as if to make amends for the less than satisfactory fare dished out till now, the production team pulls out all the stops. The casting, the music, the framing of the scenes, and the dialogues are all achingly perfect and powerful, leaving the audience hanging on to every scene. I am talking about CAT, Kohraa, and Tabarr (my personal favorite). These web series have all but erased the bad memories of the loud garish masala Pollywood scripts churned out so far. Watch out folks, Punjab has now really turned up the heat on Bollywood!
In a nutshell, Punjab's impact on India is like a thumping Bhangra beat that you cannot resist dancing to. From food that's richer than a politician's promises to art and music that can make your heart skip a beat, Punjab has got it all covered – and with a dash of Punjabi cuss words and the large-hearted, jolly nature of its folk, because why not add a bit of spice and warmth to life? So, if you find yourself heading to Punjab, don't forget to pack your appetite, put on those dancing shoes, and carry a hearty sense of humor. Trust me, this place is a whirlwind of excitement you wouldn't want to miss out on – and believe me, it's a balle balle experience like no other!
